A concrete driveway is an exceptionally durable surface and can last 50 or more years. You can have a traditional concrete drive with a variety of finishes – brushed, smooth, exposed and patterned aggregate, for example. Concrete driveways can be poured concrete with strength of 4,000 pounds per square inch to withstand the weight of vehicle traffic. There is a lot that goes into a concrete driveway including the size of the aggregate pieces (0.75 and 1 inch though smaller pieces reduce risk of sharp stones popping out over time) and the slump (a measurement of thickness and workability of mixed concrete) is ideally at 4-5 inches. In addition, building the forms, stabilizing with rebar, and finishing are all part of the process.
